Oktafiani, D., Megasari, N. L. A., Ana, E. F., Nasronudin, Lusida, M. I., & Soetjipto. (2020). First Report on HHV-6 Infection Among HIV-Infected Individuals Residing in Surabaya, Indonesia. HIV/AIDS - Research and Palliative Care, 12, 107-112. doi: 10.2147/HIV.S232146
This research aims to determine the presence of HHV-6 infection among HIV infected individuals. Taking place in Surabaya, Indonesia, AIDS mortality and morbidity have been known to be associated with HHV-6 which often experienced by children, but no studies have been done in said location. Using plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from 85 individuals as samples and PCR as the analyzing tool, researchers discover that HHV-6 was more likely to be found in HIV infected individuals. Moreover, this discovery indicated that HHV-6 was somehow emerging in Surabaya. Such results were significant in examining HIV and its comorbidities, especially for a more efficient HIV treatment, though further in-depth analysis of HHV-6 and HIV relationship is needed to justify their correlation.
